Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Rotes Rathaus is one of Berlin's largest and most diverse central Christmas markets, set in Mitte between the red-brick Rotes Rathaus (Berlin City Hall) and St. Mary's Church (Marienkirche), with the Neptune Fountain and the TV Tower forming a striking backdrop near Alexanderplatz. The market evokes old Berlin through its Altberliner Marktgasse, a market lane lined with historicising 19th-century house facades, and remains open continuously through Christmas and into the New Year — one of the few Berlin markets to do so. It draws families, locals, and tourists alike. Highlights include ice skating on a 600 m² rink around the Neptune Fountain, a 50-metre panoramic Ferris wheel with heated gondolas, Santa Claus sleigh flights three times daily, historic carousels, pony rides, a miniature train, puppet shows, and a medieval market around the Marienkirche with a show bakery. Food ranges from mulled wine and hot mead in clay cups to roasted almonds, baked apples, smoked salmon, and Handbrot. The market is directly served by U5 (Rotes Rathaus), tram lines M4, M5, and M6 (Spandauer Str./Marienkirche), and is a short walk from S+U Alexanderplatz.
