The Christmas Market at the Berlin Animal Shelter (Weihnachtsfest der Tiere im Tierheim Berlin) is a one-day festive event held at Tierheim Berlin in the Borough of Lichtenberg, locality of Falkenberg. Described as Berlin's most animal-friendly festival, it centres on animals, sustainability, and community, with a warm and compassionate atmosphere. Visitors are invited to bring small gifts for the shelter animals, which are presented together in group gift-giving ceremonies in the kennels and cabins. The market offers entirely vegan and vegetarian food, including mulled wine, cakes, waffles, and traditional Christmas treats. Stalls feature handmade decorations, gift ideas for people and animals, a book market, a jumble sale stall, and animal welfare information stands. Children can grill stick bread over a campfire and listen to fairy tales, while guided shelter tours, dog demonstrations, and performances by the Musical Theater Society Berlin round out the programme. By public transport, take the S7 to Ahrensfelde or the S75 to Hohenschönhausen, then Bus 197 toward Falkenberg to the stop "Tierheim Berlin/Dorfstr."; alternatively, take Tram M4 to Falkenberg terminus, then Bus 197.
