Winter World at Potsdamer Platz (Winterwelt am Potsdamer Platz) is an Alpine-themed winter sports and Christmas market hybrid in the Tiergarten locality of Mitte district, set against the modern high-rise skyline of one of Berlin's most famous central squares. Unlike traditional Christmas markets, it combines sporty activity with festive browsing, typically drawing an estimated 2.5 to 2.7 million visitors per season. A standout feature is the 12-metre-high, 70-metre-long toboggan run, which offers views of the Brandenburg Gate and kicks off Berlin's Christmas season weeks before most other markets open. Illuminated lime trees along Alte Potsdamer Straße create a cosier, more traditional atmosphere, while weekend evenings bring DJ sets and an après-ski party feel. Visitors can also enjoy an ice skating rink and Eisstockschießen (a curling-like ice sport), along with Austrian specialities in the Schmankerl and Salzburger Stiegl huts, including Kaiserschmarrn, Germknödel, and Jagertee. Craft stalls offer handmade gifts, Christmas decorations, jewellery, and children's toys. The market is well served by S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S25, and S26, U-Bahn line U2, and several bus routes, all stopping at Potsdamer Platz.
